Pete Buttigieg’s 2020 Presidential campaign: Pete rose to national prominence when he ran for President in 2020, quickly rising to the top of the field in a crowded primary of over 20 candidates, including Governors and Senators. He won the Iowa Caucus and placed 2nd in New Hampshire, 3rd in Nevada and 4th in South Carolina. Ultimately, he dropped out of the race before Super Tuesday and endorsed Joe Biden. 2020 Presidential Campaign Highlights
January 23, 2019 – 38 year old Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana launched his exploratory committee for President to test the waters and see if there was interest in his possible candidacy.
March 10, 2019 – Mayor Pete participates in a CNN Town Hall that catapults him into the national spotlight.
April 14, 2019 – Pete officially announces he is running for President in front of thousands of people in South Bend, IN.
May 2, 2019 – Pete and his husband, Chasten, make history as they appear on the cover of Time Magazine.
May 19, 2019 – Mayor Pete does one of the first of many appearances on Fox News for a town hall which goes viral for the way Pete answers a gotcha question about late-term abortion.
July, 2019 – Pete raises more money than anyone in the field, with an almost 25 million dollar haul in the 2nd quarter of 2019.
September, 2019 – Pete launches a Bus Tour of Iowa which gains national attention. Read an article from one reporter who was on board.
November, 2019 – Pete draws the largest and most enthusiatic crowd of supporters at the Liberty and Justice Dinner in Iowa. Later that month, an Iowa poll shows Pete Buttigieg leading the field for the first time.
February, 2020 – Pete wins the Iowa Caucus, becoming the first openly gay person to win a presidential primary state primary or caucus. He then placed 2nd in New Hampshire, only 1.3% behind Bernie Sanders. It was so close, they were awarded the same number of delegates.
March 1, 2020 – Pete suspends his campaign for President and endorses Joe Biden.
